How to start MTB?

MTB is clearly a Outdoors sport. There are particular behaviours to adopt and some rules to respect to enjoy more: Our mountain biker's code!

100% Outdoors

Outdoors sport presents dangers due to Nature. One need to take it into account in order to decrease their risks: get geared up!!

Risks that leads to problems

Falling

Mechanical failures

Risks accumulation is an open door to put yourself into danger such as hyporthermia, e.g incapacity to do complex move, intellectual confusion, ...

It is natural to

  • control its equipement and its behaviour at all time
  • get geared against the cold (during waiting time)
  • take required spare parts

The equipment

Start to buy a bike on what you feel comfortable to ride with. We have a paper for that, use it as a guide to purchase a MTB.

One can face several purchase strategies concerning the level of equipment : Purchase/ Sell or Purchase/ upgrade.

The equipment purchase doesn't stop only at buying a bike. Don't forget the safety element, technical equipment, medical, reparation kit. Have a look at the page on additional kits required for a better practice to start MTB.

Note SuZpa

Think of the conditions in what your equipment will be put : dust, mud, cold, heat, water... Find the good compromise between price and durability.

Here we go, you are ready now.. let 's go.. hmmm yeah but where? 2 solutions

the track behind your place every week-end can be unmotivating after several times.

Why not participating to a sport race organized by a club. Voluntary workers organized different level tracks. Monitored and for a small entry fees, you can discover an area at couple kilometers of your place.

If opening a map is not an issue, some tracks are indicated on the net. Careful, there are not always official. Pay attention to their difficulties by reading the map first.

Advices for the training and improvement

Advices here are very simple! Do things that are able to do! First be in shape and then increase the difficulty (longer, steeper)

If you have one area you can pass, try again and again! Don't get frustrated, find advices on the net for the techniques or ask a friend! And try again!

Of course, be fit helps! After some good training you will be able to have good fun enjoying the landscape and also performing well!

Don't forget to maintain the motor ;) drink and eat healthy!
